Paintwork

Paint protects the valuable machine from rust – here, CLAAS is committed to maintaining the highest quality standards. All sheet-metal parts are hot-dip-galvanised, and then, like the other parts, are carefully washed and phosphated, and are primed and coated with top-coat lacquer in the colours typically used at CLAAS. All parts are painted before assembly. This method ensures that parts that are bolted together are optimally protected against rust. The machine is exceptionally well protected, and therefore has a high resale value.

All connection parts are chrome-plated, including bolts, nuts, washers, pins, spring clips and moving parts such as springs, as well as parts that would be affected by paint, such as the retainer plates of the knotter. This means they are provided with a very hard chrome coating and, accordingly, are effectively protected against rust.

In 2013, CLAAS invested 8 million euros in its factory in Metz for a new state-of-the-art cataphoretic coating system.

With this new system, the factory can achieve a better paint quality, which, in turn, provides better wear resistance.

In addition to increased productivity and performance, the new coating system also makes a contribution to environmental protection:

  • Extraction, storage and recycling of water (saving of around two-thirds)
  • Reprocessing of paint sludge (separation of water and paint)
  • Optimization of the machine’s energy efficiency, thanks in particular to air recirculation.

With a capacity of approximately 5,000 balers per year, the coating system allows us more than ever to meet the expectations of our customers, who work in a variety of different conditions and expect a high level of quality.
